How to do Basketball Jump: Step 1: Stand with your feet about hip-width apart with a slight bend in your knees. Step 2: Hold your hands at chest level as if you are holding a basketball in your hands and preparing to shoot the ball. Step 3: Begin exercise by jumping up off the ground and raising your hands into the air just as if you are shooting the ball toward the hoop.
Jump up and tip the ball off the left side of the backboard 10 times, using your left hand only. While standing on one side of the basket, pass the ball up high on the backboard with both hands so that it comes down on the other side. Move quickly over to the other side, jump, and rebound the ball.
Single Leg Approach Jump. This is a great drill when vertical jump training for basketball. The single step approach makes this similar to going for a layup. Adding in a bit of momentum allows you to do an even higher box jump and begin getting comfortable with new heights.
How to Perform: Stand tall with your chest up and feet at shoulder-width apart. Similar to the jump squat, you’ll start by bending slightly at the knees and driving your hips back only a little bit. From here, jump straight up into the air. Simultaneously flex your pelvis and bring your knees up towards your chest.
Alternating Lunge Jumps – From a normal standing position, take one step forward with your right foot and one step backwards with your left foot. This is your starting position. From this position, jump as high as you can in the air and switch leg positions. Straight Leg Calf Jumps – Without bending your knees, jump up and down in the same spot. You won’t get very high off the ground and it will be the ankle doing all the movement which will work the calf muscle.
